measoff input in CR Basic single-ended voltage command

Hi,

I am working with a single-ended voltage distance measurement sensor, and have been having trouble with random noise (on the order of 0.08"). Looking through the CR Basic code, I came across the option to turn off the measurement of the ground, by turning the measoff input to false. 

Any ideas why this would be? Would this indicate an issue with the grounding curcuit in my CR 1000?

I hope I explained thoroughly enough to make sense of the situation.
